I’ve written about the “Kia Quirk” inside the new 2017 Kia Cadenza, but where Kia Quirks are seemingly absurb choices that are completely sound in reasoning, a Hyundai Quirk can’t be reasoned past being “a dumb decision.” Here’s the Hyundai Quirk inside the brand new Azera/Grandeur (which we aren’t getting in the US apparently).

Hmmm...that design sure does have a lot of Genesis in it for that brand to be completely separate from the lower Hyundai tree, but the brand wasn’t planned to be spun off when all these recent cars were finishing up development. Everything was supposed to be a Hyundai from G90 to Accent so I give this one a pass.

Kinja'd!!!

That is the most Charger looking rear end I’ve ever not seen on a Charger. This FWD sedan even has stronger fender bulges than a Hellcat. However, resemblances to other brands is a Korean car trope not a quirk. Anyways, a few of you know that the design is rooted to late 1980s Mitsubishi Debonair derrieres, so there’s heritage to that knockoff.

Leather on the doors and controls on the passenger seat for the rear passenger to use? Wow, those are some nice features for making the options list look longer but they are so market specific I don’t think I’d call them a WHAT IN FONDLING FERRETS IS THAT?!!

Kinja'd!!!

Is that an analog clock directly next to the digital display which has the time displayed on the opposite side? The time, temperature, wifi, and power display even have their own dedicated portion of the screen realestate so that they don’t ever disappear. *initiates slow clap*

You’re probably expecting me to explain that quirk. In going to be honest, if it were logical then it would be a Kia Quirk. I got nothing for this because it shouldn’t even exist, hence the “Hyundai Quirk.”

Genesis G90 interior for your time.

Kinja'd!!!

Wait up just a minute, you know what really makes me upset? They could have used the square clock out of the Genesis Sedan/G80! I don’t...even...wha...*passes out*

I wouldn’t judge it on that display - that’s the Apple CarPlay UI, and therefore isn’t aware of what the car has as far as clocks and such. What does it look like when it’s not displaying CarPlay?

Glad you asked, time redundancy is the side effect of technology. I just complained about clocks as filler a few days ago.

I’ve got a strong dislike for analog clocks in cars, especially newer ones. They just seem like afterthoughts design wise.

I love analog clocks, i just hate that there is always a digital time display on the screens. If you are going ti put a dedicated clock inside a vehicle then take it off the screen and use that space for something else. A compass, elevation, interior dampness, current odor, I dont care.

My brain cannot figure out why the dash is that shape, other than they intentionally wanted they clock there. I...just don’t understand. A bigger screen would be more better.

The way the lead image crops on mobile it looked like an Infiniti. Except the head and taillights are better resolved than on an Infiniti.

My feelings exactly. Ive just never seen two clocks on the same plane before. The clock, even when near the display, never shares the same area as the display. Im seriously becoming enraged by this because I cant think of any reason other than a complete oversight up until the product was finished.

I know it seems like a small thing to all you reading this, but the clock placement next to the display and horizontally inline with the display’s clock is seriously unusual and unfathomable up until this moment for me.

You just reminded me, Im pretty sure Mazda, Infiniti, and Maserati are running the exact same design languages (not intentionally) and its amazing to me that the “lower” end company handles it the best.

I too have noticed that it is a popular similarity between a lot of brands and current styling. But Mazda, by far, has the best current design language in my humble (but biased) opinion.

What’s an Azera?

(Google, Google...)

Big, petrol-only Hyundai not sold here.

Right, as you were.

i can see where you’re coming from, it’s redundant to have so many clocks. i’ve got a g35 and while the clock in th dash was novel at first, it’s worn off. really wish it was digital considering the display area where the clock is, is all digital too.

That interior is absolutely fabulous; luxury interiors tend to be quite heavy and solid and I like how they’ve gone in a lighter, airier direction. The styling couldn’t have been worse, and I really like the results; especially the front end treatment. They’ve done a fair job disguising the FWD proportions as well.

Infiniti’s “not-a-hofmeister” kink really bugs me. It’s completely counterintuitive, as far as the motion of the design goes.

I don’t even understand how you have the time to read it while driving. It just seems unsafe. I mean, you’ve gotta remember which hand is for the hour, and which one is for the minutes, and then do the math, and then unwrap yourself from the tree.
